Our Southwestern Regional Sales Manager, Robert Young, headed to San Diego for the inaugural Scootchella (June 7-9). Here’s a recap of Scootchella 2017.
Representing Piaggio and Vespa, I got together with the Vespa Club of San Diego, Scoot Palm Springs, Desert Touring, The Shag Store, and The V hotel to put on an amazing desert adventure.
Vespa Motorsports San Diego had been hyping up the “scootouring” trip to Palm Springs for many months, with the promise of fun, sun and adventure. And these promises were delivered.
They asked experienced “scooterists” to clear their calendars, pack their suntan lotion, and ride on to the first-ever Scootchella. Overall, the event went really well with all attendees expressing their enjoyment for the experience.
People on the streets around Palm Springs took notice, also, and were taking pictures of the scooters. Attendees of the rally were very appreciative that Piaggio / Vespa had sent a representative to support their event.
Friday, I met up with the group in Palm Springs. Saturday morning I had a Vespa EZUP in place to provide shade for the rider meeting. Swag bags were given to attendees, and included Vespa gifts and brochures provided by Piaggio Group Americas.
Kickstands up at 8:30 a.m., and 30+ scooters took to the scenic streets of Palm Springs for a guided tour hosted by John of Scoot Palm Springs. This was followed by a BBQ that was hosted by Desert Touring Specialties with shade for the food line being provided by the Vespa EZUP.
Following lunch, riders took to the streets again for more Vespa riding before meeting at the V Hotel for dinner at Joey Palm Springs, which was provided by Piaggio Group Americas. Everyone was again very gracious for all of the support that the Piaggio Group had provided to the first-ever Scootchella!
With the overall success of the event, the plan is for future events to include novice and intermediate riders as well. We hope to see you there next year!
Note: due to cease and desist order from the promoter of the Coachella Music & Arts Festival held in California’s Colorado desert, Scootchella will have a different name next year. Stay clicked to Vespa’s blog for details!
